Hello people back at home.
Yes I know it has been a really long time since I have written something on waarbenjij.nu but that is what I am doing at this moment for you guys.
A lot has happened here at Selati Game Reserve and we had some interesting sightings and activities in the wilderness. But overall I will tell you guys about the highlights from the past weeks.
Quick explanation about telemetry before I write my story: The animals have a collar which sends radiofrequencies around, the telemetry is a device which can be set to that frequency in order to determine where the animals you are looking for is located.
At one point we had to find Mbhurri which is the dominant male lion here on the reserve but we couldn't get any signal with the telemetry. So we had to find him by the use of finding the other lionesses he was with at that time. We soon figured out that his collar had run out of battery or was just broken, which in both cases would mean a recollaring. So eventually we found him on Tuesday 30th of April and he was in a perfect spot where he could be darted in order to put the new collar on. He started moving around and eventually stopt in quite an area where darting was possible but was not easy to perform. We could dart him and put a new collar on him. Pictures have been taken, some of them you can see already on Facebook hahaha.
Second we had several encounters with lizards and spiders in the back garden including the Whipping spider, large plated lizard and a gecko. So that was a cool experience. I also climbed the Nyala tree that is located on the reserve, yes I will put a picture on the internet for you guys. I also saw a baboon spider which in Dutch would be Vogelspin two times. And a blind snake.
Third I had an amazing experience with helping out at a Sable antelope breeding project to recover one of the males there which was sick due to a stomach disease. The experience was stunning and absolutely amazing. The fact that I touched one juvenile male and a fullgrown male is amazing. Not many people can say that. This Friday we also had a sleepout on the Reserve which basically is you sleep in a riverbed or a drainage line throughout the night and take shifts by looking for animals that come close to the campsite. When I was on shift two giraffe came walking past us, a volunteer saw several impala and a hyena was about 75 meters away from us calling. It was supercool to do to make a long story short.
Now I will end my story about my experiences the last weeks and will start uploading pictures for you guys

Snoopy:
Hey kleine baas,
